This year in the UK, March brings us the celebration of mothers and motherhood. There are many things that have been written about 'a mother’s love’ so I would like to bring to the spotlight my very own mother… Hana.
When I was admitted into the hospital to start my treatment back in 2016, I knew that I would
be spending much of my time in the hospital. As reluctant as I was, I clearly didn’t have much of a choice but my mum did, and yet her choice was to stay by my side at the hospital. I tried to talk her out of it, saying it would be too much for her to take on but she wouldn’t take no for an answer.
For the duration of my treatment, we were in and out of the hospital, me on the bed and mum sleeping on the floor next to me. I hated seeing her be so uncomfortable but she insisted that she was just happy enough to be by my side.
She made such an effort to make the hospital feel like my home away from home.
Mum learnt all about my diagnosis, and medications and made friends with all the
wonderful hospital staff, she always tried to help other patients too. A true ray of sunshine.
Due to the circumstances, the time we spent together was filled with challenges, tears, mood swings
and low days. However, through this adversity our bond was strengthened; we created some lovely
memories, shared ambitions, hopes, prayers, inside jokes, laughter and tears… from the laughter!
Although the situation itself was not ideal, it solidified our bond even more. It allowed me to see so
much through her eyes and gave me a deeper insight into what it means to be a mother.
With Hope was a concept we discussed throughout my treatment and recovery and it was mum who
fully encouraged me to pursue it. It is very close to both of our hearts and without her support, it
wouldn’t be possible. She works with me hand in hand and absolutely loves making our candles.
With Hope is the continuation of our journey together and I am so grateful to be on it with her.
To me, my mum symbolises so much of what is good in life. Kindness. Strength. Honesty. Grace.
Love. Compassion. Empathy. Generosity. Hope.
She is my Superwoman. She is everything to me and I am honoured to call her my own.
To celebrate Mother’s Day, we will be hosting a pop-up at Boots in Kingston-Upon-Thames from the 13th to the 19th of March 2023.
